Summer 2022 Recap: NASA Center Internships
NASA Center Internships
Rosemary Ferreira and Zane Green were supported by the Arizona Space Grant Consortium for their summer 2022 internships. Read below to learn more about their experiences and to see how you can become involved in a NASA Center Internship!
Rosemary Ferreira is a senior at Arizona State University studying Astronomy and Planetary Sciences at the School of Earth and Space Exploration, and has been accepted to do research with the Astrophysics Lab and the Interplanetary Initiative. This Summer 2022, Rosemary interned at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center with the Office of Communications. Rosemary says, “During my internship at NASA I got to be part of the communications team for the JWST first image release and subsequent release events. I contributed to live shots during the JWST [James Webb Space Telescope] press week for the post image release. I also got to work with NASA and Google writing interactive education-based content about the key differences between JWST and the Hubble Space telescope and how they complement each other's observations. I worked with NASA en Español on voice over content for “Recientemente en la NASA" highlights of weekly science happening across NASA facilities. I also helped with content creation for a podcast episode aimed at engaging Spanish speaking future NASA interns. I participated in the "Futures Roundtables" for NASA's Office of Technology, Policy, and Strategy, and I was a panelist for the MUREP Hub Success Summit for NASA's STEM Engagement which is aimed at engaging underrepresented populations through a wide variety of initiatives.” Check out one of Rosemary’s voice over contribution to this NASA video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsDwiqy3jro
Zane Green recently finished a Summer 2022 Internship at NASA Langley. Zane was working with a composite radiator for an atmosphere Revitalizer. Zane says, “For my project I focused on characterizing a composite that is a purposed alternative material to aluminum as it has a lower density. My project was looking at the morphology and thermal conductivity of the sample. I would say my favorite part of the internship was being able to learn about all the different projects NASA works on and being able to network with everyone to build a great foundation in my professional career. This internship helped me focus more on what exactly I want to do in the future, especially when it came to graduate school. I am thankful for all the seminars offered throughout the summer that helped me learn more about what I want to achieve with my career.” Zane returns to Arizona State University this Fall to finish his degree in Material Science and Engineering.

NASA internships and fellowships leverage NASA's unique missions and programs to enhance and increase the capability, diversity and size of the nation's future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce. Internships are available from high school to graduate level. Internships provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.
