Bryan LaBore, 2009 NAU Space Grant Intern
Bryan was a Space Grant intern during the 2009-2010 school year and graduated from NAU in the spring of 2011 with a B.S. in Biomedical Science. After graduation, he enrolled in the University of Minnesota School of Public Health for two years and obtained a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology in 2013. His research at UMN looked at possible associations between various types of gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma and potential risk factors such as diabetes, obesity, increased waist-to-hip ratio, and increased waist circumference in a population of post-menopausal women. Bryan’s interests in graduate school also involved health care policy and infectious disease epidemiology. He interned at the North Dakota Department of Health during the summer of 2012 where he analyzed data related to working conditions in the oil fields of western North Dakota. These analyses were eventually presented to the State Health Officer of North Dakota as well as members of the North Dakota Governor's cabinet. Additionally, he worked at the Minnesota Department of Health during the 2012-2013 school year as an infectious disease epidemiology intern. During his time at MDH, he worked on state and national level outbreaks of foodborne illness as well as the national outbreak of fungal meningitis in 2012. Bryan is currently a MD student at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences with an expected graduation date of May 2017.
